The Position Taught Him More Than How To Throw A Football

From four-star recruit to college quarterback rooms, starter, and coach.

Deuce Hogan's football path was never one-dimensional. He entered college as one of the nation's highly regarded pro-style quarterbacks, then experienced the position from nearly every seat in the room.

He learned at Iowa. He prepared in the SEC at Kentucky behind future NFL quarterbacks. He fought back from a season-ending injury at New Mexico State. At Nicholls, he returned healthy and made his most extended run as a college starter.

Along the way, he learned four collegiate offensive systems, worked with different coaching staffs and teammates, and discovered that quarterback development is as much about preparation, decision-making, resilience and leadership as arm talent.

Now the playing chapter is complete. The experience stays with him — and he is using it to coach quarterbacks.

Deuce Hogan entered college as a nationally ranked pro-style quarterback from Texas. His career took him through the Big Ten, SEC, Conference USA and Southland Conference, giving him experience inside four programs, four offensive systems and very different quarterback rooms.

At Kentucky he prepared behind Will Levis and Devin Leary. At New Mexico State, a broken collarbone cut short his 2024 season. He returned in 2025 at Nicholls, where he made his most extended run as a starter. The playing journey now forms the foundation for his work coaching and developing quarterbacks.

Beyond the Film

A quarterback is more than what shows up on film.

Deuce has been fortunate to learn from coaches and mentors who have seen him in the weight room, in the meeting room, on the field, and in the locker room.

For coaches who would like to learn more about Deuce — his character, work ethic, leadership, and ability as a quarterback — every single coach he has ever played for, knows him well and can speak to those things firsthand:

For Quarterback Coaches

Deuce Hogan is a traditional pro-style quarterback with the size and physical profile to operate an NFL-style offense. He entered college as a highly regarded four-star quarterback and the No. 15 pro-style quarterback in the 2020 recruiting class, according to 247Sports.

His collegiate path includes Iowa, Kentucky, New Mexico State and Nicholls, giving him experience across multiple college football environments. At Kentucky he prepared daily in a pro-style offense behind two consecutive NFL quarterbacks. At Nicholls he made his most extended run as a starter — nine games, 1,046 passing yards, 60.6% completions, a 106.6 rating and 116.2 yards per game.

With one year of eligibility remaining, Hogan is looking for the right program and a quarterback room he can strengthen — as an experienced veteran, not as a guaranteed starter.

Frame

6'4", 220 pounds. Prototypical pro-style build — the height to see over an interior rush and the mass to work from the pocket.

System Versatility

Four programs, four coaching staffs, four playbooks. Has installed and operated offenses at the Big Ten, SEC, C-USA and FCS levels.

NFL-Room Preparation

Two seasons in Kentucky's pro-style offense behind Will Levis and Devin Leary — NFL meeting rooms, NFL install language, SEC-speed reps.

Availability

Graduate quarterback, one year of eligibility remaining. Available now, ready to enroll and add value to a quarterback room immediately.

Coaching & Development

Quarterback Coach & Camp Instructor  |  2022–Present

Over three seasons and dozens of camps, Deuce has served as a passing coach at summer programs across the country — including the Manning Passing Academy. He has worked alongside Jeff Christensen — former NFL quarterback (Bengals, Rams, Eagles, Browns, Jets, Broncos) and founder of Throw It Deep, the trainer credited with developing Patrick Mahomes, Baker Mayfield, and Trey Lance — developing quarterbacks at all levels.

The people who know quarterback play best have trusted Deuce with their athletes for years. His playing experience now informs the way he teaches the position: mechanics, preparation, football intelligence, resilience and leadership.

Develop The Quarterback, Not Just The Thrower
01
Mechanics With Purpose
Throwing mechanics matter, but every movement has to connect to playing the position under pressure.
02
Understand The Why
Quarterbacks improve faster when they understand coverage, protections, progressions and why the offense is asking them to do something.
03
Prepare Like A Quarterback
Film habits, practice habits and weekly preparation separate talented throwers from dependable quarterbacks.
04
Lead The Room
The position carries responsibility. Deuce teaches quarterbacks to communicate, compete and lead teammates well.
05
Handle Adversity
His own career included success, waiting, transfers, injury and starting opportunities. Young quarterbacks benefit from a coach who understands all of it.
06
Individual Development
The goal is not to make every quarterback look the same. It is to build repeatable fundamentals around the athlete in front of him.
